NASA’s IMAP spacecraft was launched in September 2025 and entered its science phase in February 2026. This RAS Meeting will bring together the UK and European communities in discussing IMAP’s first science discoveries and future exploitation of its data. Talks will focus on: 1) exploring the solar wind-interstellar medium interaction using energetic neutral atoms; 2) using new multi-point L1 data (including IMAP’s) for studying solar wind structure; 3) understanding energetic particle acceleration near the Sun, in the heliosphere and heliosheath and 4) improving space weather forecasting using L1 monitors. The meeting will highlight how the new IMAP science data can produce a step change in the current state of knowledge in these areas. Carrying a magnetometer built at Imperial College and funded by UK Space Agency, IMAP offers excellent opportunities to explore fundamental science questions in space plasma physics, interstellar physics and astrophysics.
